Re 'fps' I guess you're referring to being able re-time animations in MoBu? I would be interested to know more about what you're thinking of in terms of BVH to FBX support conversion. I suppose a workflow could be developed to retarget BVH onto HIK character rigs in Maya, but Maya doesn't have native BVH support. Even with Bootcamp, that seems like just one more difficulty (or potential problem source) for each student and instructor. I can see how a bunch of Windows licenses at nearly $100 apiece would definitely be a delaying factor, if not an outright showstopper. Please, I REALLY do not want to get into a Mac/PC discussion. That is just my personal experience given because you asked. In my experience, these disciplines are easier to do and more fully featured on the Mac as 3D Animation may be easier to do on the PC. On the machines that I have Bootcamped, the Windows version of Maya itself seems less stable.įurthermore, we do a lot in our one lab we run classes in Film/Motion Graphics and Graphic Design as well as Animation. That puts an extra $80-90 Windows tax, if you will, on running Motionbuilder in our Mac lab. I teach at a school, and we don't have the money to have a separate PC lab, so Bootcamp is the only real alternative. Really, I am more interested in BVH to FBX conversion and fps conversion than I am any intrinsic animation or HIK functionality. Well, as long as they continue to build more MotionBuilder functionality into Maya, I have no problem with Autodesk not supporting it further. I think that ends the prosumer vs consumer debate. Apple gave 1.2 Billion to a headphones developer instead of prosumer software developers. It's sad because OSX can't really get the premium suite or ultimate editions because of no MotionBuilder.Īt one point I remember hearing Steve Jobs gave Alias developers dollars to bring AliasWavefront to OSX. That kind of handling is why Apple isn't in the Mocap studios. I would have to buy a whole new app before I pay half price for an upgrade. It may be 2018 before I drop another 4500 for Maya.
OSX AUDIOBOOK BUILDER UPGRADE
That left me with a 2,000 upgrade since I paid cash with no subscription.
OSX AUDIOBOOK BUILDER 64 BIT
Then immediatedly (less than 4 months) a true 64 bit OSX (10.6?) came out and the Maya 2011 64bit. I purchased 2010 which was late for 64 bit because of Apple being being with upgrades.

I was catch in the Apple 64 bit Maya OSX debachable that still has a bitter taste. It may be hearsay or speculation on my part but I don't think there would be any high-end prosumer software on the Mac with some incentive or payola from Apple. I'd have to point the figure at Apple more than Autodesk.
